Alliance Sport and Community Development spokesperson David Honeyford MLA said: “The GAA have issued a Voluntary Ex-Ante Transparency notice (VEAT), notifying of their intention to modify the contract changes to the design and cost of Casement Park.

“This will invoke a ‘standstill period’ whereby the procurement procedure is paused for a period of 30 days.

“Where we are at this point, we will review the VEAT notice and discuss the proposed changes with the GAA.

Alliance Communities spokesperson Kellie Armstrong MLA added: “It is normal for design or cost changes to come to light as a project as large as Casement Park progresses.

“The Casement Park plans have been protracted. While there have been issues around its construction, the ability to host major GAA games presents significant opportunities for employment and economic development. Upfront investment in Casement Park has to bring with it this kind of growth for the surrounding area and for Belfast City.

“Issuing a VEAT notice gives notice of intention to make changes to the contract. The market has time to consider. No decisions will be taken by the Department for Communities until the standstill period is complete.

“Alliance will be asking the GAA to detail their proposals and will consider what budget will be needed in future years to deliver the project.”
